The Silla de Enea (also called silla de anea or silla sevillana) — the traditional Andalusian wooden chair with a woven rush (enea/cattail) seat.

Flamenco was not born in theatres. It grew in private houses, patios, caves, and later in the cafés cantantes of the 19th century. In those spaces the performers sat on ordinary household chairs. The silla de enea was the everyday furniture of Andalusian working-class and Gitano life. When flamenco moved onto a small raised platform (tablao), the same chairs simply moved with it. They are not theatrical props; they are the furniture of the culture that created the art.
